The Directors

Philip Smith and Adrian Marston had previously worked together at one of the region’s leading surveying practices before going their separate ways, only to be later reunited to create the current Partnership.

Both are fully capable of undertaking all aspects of Building Surveying work, although their experience since originally working together has provided them with slightly different and complementary areas of expertise.

Philip Smith

Philip started his building surveying career at the University of Hull Estates Department.  Subsequently Philip’s experience has been very broad but with an emphasis on residential and conservation matters. Philip previously headed the building surveying department at Smiths Gore in Corbridge, and then left in 1998 to become a sole practitioner based in Hexham.

In recent years, within the current partnership, Philip has specialised in acting as an Expert Witness for boundary and building disputes plus Right of Light work.

Adrian Marston

Adrian began his career carrying out traditional building surveying on historic buildings in North Yorkshire, and thereafter in Northumberland. Adrian then focused upon commercial property surveying, firstly working for Chesterton, before moving to head the building consultancy department for King Sturge in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Adrian specialises in acquisition surveys, dilapidation matters, refurbishments of commercial premises, Party Wall matters and Right of Light work.

The Team

Within Smith Marston, in addition to the Directors, we have an Office Manager and two Building Surveyors.

Darryl Bingham - Darryl is a Chartered Building Surveyor with a widely varied experience of commercial and residential property, meaning that he is ideally skilled to undertake a very wide range of Building Surveying and Architectural roles including surveys, design and specification of building projects, plus acting as CDM Coordinator and Party Wall Surveyor.  Darryl has particular experience of architectural projects with a particular flair for this aspect of our work, producing inventive designs and being expert at finding solutions to difficult architectural design problems.

Mark Bodger - Mark has has a degree in Building Surveying and a range of experience in the Surveying industry, mostly Building Surveying. Mark is able to become involved with all aspects of Building Surveying as he works towards achieving his Chartered status.  Mark's main areas of work have included design, drawing and specification of building schemes plus acting as Party Wall Surveyor.

Marilyn Paget - Marilyn is our indispensible Office Manager, who keeps the whole thing running smoothly !
